If you haven’t already noticed we have a slight obsession with terraced houses (particularly period ones) and we think it is about time that we share some of the reasons why that is.
To start us off we have…banging windows
Now we know windows are not usually where most people start when looking for a property, but for us it’s a big ticket item and that bay and sash window combo is where it’s at. Why you ask? Well, for starters they tend to provide lots of natural light and if you can bag yourself some decent frames (not bright white PVC) that are in-keeping with the house’s period style they tend to look pretty incredible*. And, not forgetting those of us who are a little on the cautious side, sash windows are very secure – only one panel opens at a time and you can easily install other safety mechanisms.

That sweet terrace…location
Terrace houses guarantee you neighbours, or at least one neighbour, for some people this is a bad thing but for others (people like us) then it’s a good thing – for all you know you might meet a fellow terrace lover! Also terrace houses tend to be in areas with shops, parks, good transport connections and if you’re really lucky a pub too – could be pretty handy.
Your very own…lucky dip interior and features
Whilst the exterior and floor plan of a terrace house is often the similar to the house next door, if you, instead of buying one of those new build ready made houses, take a leap of faith you’ve potentially got the exciting opportunity to work with nooks, crannies, narrow staircases, Minton tiles (if you’re lucky), fireplaces, sometimes a cellar, picture rails and other jazzy original features. If you follow some of the insane instagram accounts that we do you’ll know exactly what we’re talking about!

And finally…the price is right!*
This might just be the biggest attraction of them all – however we still think windows are more important – as, more often than not, we see detached and semi-detached houses on the market for astronomical prices BUT with a terraced house you are potentially looking at something that you might actually be able afford AND have a little bit of cash to spare. If that doesn’t get you going then we don’t know what will!
*outside of London, inside of London you’ll be slapping down the big bucks
